About Chip It!

Chip It! is an online tool that lets you instantly turn any picture into a beautiful palette of Sherwin-Williams paint colors.

No matter where you find inspiring colors — a gorgeous landscape, a shot of
a stunning room, even a picture of a stuffed animal — Chip It! will identify the shades you love and save them for later.

How Chip It! works

The easiest way to see how Chip It! works is to see it in action.

And for those of you currently surfing the Internet at work, here's the nonvideo explanation:

Chip It! instantly identifies the main colors in any image you select or upload, matches them to more than 1,500 Sherwin-Williams paint colors, and creates a ChipCard with the original image and its color palette.

You can save and sort all your ChipCards in customized ChipBooks to explore later or use for your next paint project.

Creating ChipCards

There are three simple ways to create ChipCards:

1. Install the Chip It! button to create ChipCards anywhere online without leaving the web page you’re on.
2. Upload a photo you’ve saved to your computer on letschipit.com.
3. Enter an image URL on letschipit.com.

Installing the Chip It! Button

Make sure your browser is set to view your Bookmarks Toolbar. Then drag the “Chip It!” button and drop it into the toolbar.

Using the Chip It! Button

Using the Chip It! button to create ChipCards is easy:

1. Make sure you have the Chip It! button in your toolbar.
2. Spot an image with colors you love.
3. Click the Chip It! button in your toolbar to activate the tool.
4. Roll over the image you want to chip, then click the Chip It! button
   when it appears.
5. Save your new ChipCard.
6. Do a victory dance.

Viewing ChipCard Colors

Chip It! identifies every single color in the pictures you select, then it uses an algorithm to rank the colors from most to least prominent. It selects the top five as the main colors on your ChipCard.

Sometimes less prominent accent colors and highlights don’t appear in the first five colors shown.

To see up to 10 colors, click "More Colors" on your ChipCards. In most cases, the less prominent accent colors will be visible there.

Creating an Account

The easiest way to save your ChipCards is by creating a Chip It! account.
There are two simple ways to do that.

Create an account by connecting with Facebook:

Click the "Log in" button on the ChipCard screen or letschipit.com home page and select "Connect With Facebook." Then choose "Install."

Create an account with your email address:

Click the "Log in" button on the ChipCard screen or letschipit.com home
page and select "I’m New to Chip It!" Enter a username, your email address and
a password. Then click "Create my Account."

Privacy

We will not sell, redistribute or otherwise release any of your personal information to third-party sites.

When you log in with Facebook we promise we will never post to your wall,
or spam you or your friends.

If you log in with your email address we will only send you emails regarding
the status of your Chip It! account.

Accessing ChipCards

You can access all your ChipCards on letschipit.com. Just log in to your account to view, edit and share them whenever you want.

Sharing ChipCards

Chip It! makes it easy to pin your ChipCards on Pinterest or share them on Facebook and Twitter. Just log in to your Chip It! account and go to the ChipCard you want to pin or share. Click "Share" and then choose the option you want.

Or pin and share your ChipCards immediately after you create them using the options provided in the ChipCard confirmation window.

And here's a secret hint: You can even use Chip It! while you browse Pinterest
to create ChipCards out of all your favorite pins.

Mobile Devices

You can log in to your Chip It! account to view, edit, and share your ChipCards
on any smartphone or tablet. However, the Chip It! button isn’t compatible with mobile devices at this time.

Adding Chip It! to Websites

You can add this Chip It! button to your site using the code below.

This will allow your visitors to create ChipCards from images on your site even
if they don’t have the Chip It! bookmarklet installed. All ChipCards created will
credit and link back to your site.

Step 1:

Copy and paste this code before the closing </body> tag of the web page you want the Chip It! button to appear on:
